Brown Sugar Green Beans

We eat a lot of fresh vegetables in our house and green beans are always a favorite. Adding this brown sugar butter sauce gives a little added flavor.


  • 1 pound fresh green beans, trimmed

Needed to steam:

  • large skillet with lid
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt


  • small sauce pan
  • 4 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 fresh pepper


  1. Steam green beans by adding beans, butter, water and salt to a large skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Cover and cook 5-7 minutes.
  3. Uncover and cook for a few additional minutes until desired tenderness and most water has eveaporated.
  4. Drain excess water before adding sauce.
  5. While steaming green beans add butter, sugar, garlic, salt and pepper to small sauce pan.
  6. Cook over medium-low heat, stirring until brown sugar is dissolved.
  7. Add sauce to green beans and stir until coated.
